ALMA ROSA CHARDONNAY EL JABALI VYDS
ALMA ROSA CHARDONNAY EL JABALI VYDS Image

The 2014 Chardonnay El Jabali has a brilliant straw color. The nose is of dry straw and lemongrass. Flavors of lemongrass, mineral, and white peach with a long finish with creamy notes. This wine has a juicy loquat, mouth-filling flavor.

ALMA ROSA CHARDONNAY STA. BARBARA
ALMA ROSA CHARDONNAY STA. BARBARA Image

Opens up in the glass with aromas of lemon zest and lychee, complemented by fresh earth and flinty minerality. On the palate, it displays a scintillating acidity, highlighting the lemon curd character. Finishes clean and crisp.
The mild Spring of 2016 led to even fruit set and average yields. Late Summer conditions showed the effects of almost five years of drought conditions on the canopy, which started yellowing early from salt accumulation in the soils not rinsed by heavy Winter rains. The only heat spell with warm nights came during harvest.

ALMA ROSA CHARDONNAY STA. RITA HILLS
ALMA ROSA CHARDONNAY STA. RITA HILLS Image

AQUITANIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON
AQUITANIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON Image

In the early 1990’s, Bordeaux luminaries Bruno Prats (Chateau Cos d’Estournel) and Paul Pontallier (Chateau Margaux) discovered the high caliber of Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile’s Alto Maipo region. They partnered with their colleague Felipe de Solminihac, a renowned Chilean agronomist, oenologist and winemaker in the region. They acquired 45 acres in the ‘Quebrada de Macul’, historically the heart of the Maipo Valley vineyards, and Viña Aquitania was born. In January 2003, Ghislain de Montgolfier (CEO of Bollinger Champagne), became the fourth partner.

Harvested in May from Aquitania’s high-density vineyard in Alto Maipo, the Cabernet Sauvignon is harvested, cold soaked, punched down three times a day, and then transferred to barrels for 8 months in 50% French oak barrels and 50% stainless steel tanks.

The grapes are harvested from the section of the vineyard that surrounds the winery. This wine is aged for 16 months in new French oak, then aged in bottle until the winemaking partners agree it is ready for release. Lazuli, a name that pays homage to lapis lazuli the precious gemstone from Chile, is the jewel of Viña Aquitania.

BODEGAS ARRAYAN ALBILLO REAL
BODEGAS ARRAYAN ALBILLO REAL Image

Historically, Albillo contributed texture to the red wines of the Meseta – a role similar to that of Viognier in Côte Rôtie. A small plot is still cultivated at Vega Sicilia, but total plantings have decreased over the past few decades as growers turn to international varietals. A revival may be underway, and deservedly so, as winemakers take greater interest in resurrecting indigenous varietals. The grape has a high glycerol index which confers a smooth, almost waxy texture to the wines.
Tiny production (fewer than 2000 bottles) of an almost unknown grape from old vines. Fermented and aged in French oak barrels. Fresh and elegant with white fruit notes, citrus, herbaceous and floral components too. Medium to full-bodied with a slightly waxy texture and not-quite-there aromas of white peach, hay and fennel. Beautiful stuff!

BODEGAS ARRAYAN GARNACHA DE ARRAYAN
BODEGAS ARRAYAN GARNACHA DE ARRAYAN Image

“Arrayan’s success is symbolic of the renewed energy and enthusiasm in some of Spain’s forgotten regions – in this case Méntrida. The approach may be modern, but it is based on the old vines and history of Garnacha in the region. The vineyard is on poor sandy soils at 700m – just the kind of higher-altitude site sought to prevent the resulting wine from toppling over into blowsiness. The project was launched in 1988 with the help of two top names: the Australian viticultural expert Richard Smart, who has worked across the Iberian peninsula, and in the winery the enthusiastic and insightful Miguel Angel de Gregorio of Rioja’s Finca Allende.”
This medium-extract wine is a vivid cherry red in colour. Floral aromas with notes of fennel and orange peel. Long, structured silky mouth. Strongly mineral aftertaste. Overall, it is an elegant Garnacha, typical of the slate hills of Cebreros.

BODEGAS ARRAYAN PETIT VERDOT

Arrayán Petit Verdot 2010 is a Red Wine made under the Denomination of Origin Méntrida with Petit Verdot grape in its entirety. It is aged in 12 months French oak barrels and 12 others in the bottle.

BODEGAS ARRAYAN PREMIUM

It has had a aging of 15 months in French oak barrels, 70% new and a maturation of 18 months in the bottle before going to market.

BODEGAS ARRAYAN SYRAH
BODEGAS ARRAYAN SYRAH Image

a.k.a. Shiraz (Australia) Not to be confused with Petite Sirah, which is a synonym for Durif.
Syrah is responsible for some of the darkest full-bodied red wines in the world. It has dark fruit flavors from sweet blueberry to savory black olive. When you taste Syrah you’ll be greeted with a punch of flavor that tapers off and then has a spicy peppery note in the aftertaste. Because of its front-loaded style, Syrah is often blended with grapes that add more mid-palate, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, to help make the wine taste more complete. Traditionally in France, Syrah is blended with light-bodied Grenache and even richer Mourvedre to create the classic Côtes du Rhône blend.
Powerful nose, ripe blackberries, creamy chocolate, prunes, fine balsamic herbs, violets and liquorice notes. Powerful, fleshy palate, ripe fruit with a slight liqueur- like quality, slightly alcoholic, good acidity, liquorice, spicy plum preserve and some fleshy petals to finish.

BODINI MALBEC
BODINI MALBEC Image

Bodini is crafted by winemaker Jimena Lopez and showcases fruit grown by a small estate winery in Mendoza, Argentina. Supporting Bodini encourages the tradition of independent, family-run vineyards and helping them express their unique wines. Bodini showcases grapes with the fullest expression of fruit. The vineyards are located in Luján de Cuyo and Maipu with soil that is made up of clay and loam soil. The grapes are hand harvested. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation and is unoaked to retain the pure flavors of the grapes.

CHAMAN CABERNET FRANC
CHAMAN CABERNET FRANC Image

Revolutionary winemaker Luis Reginato brings Argentine winemaking to the next level with original varietal wines that speak to the future of Mendoza. A Chaman, or “Shaman” in English, is a mentor who brings guidance to the present by accessing knowledge of the past – mysterious, magical, and inspiring. This wine pays homage to the enchantment handed down by Luis’ mentor, father, and vineyard shaman, José Reginato. The Reginato family has been growing grapes in the Uco Valley for over 60 years, and Luis saw -great potential in varietals like Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc since the cool climate allows for full ripening and maturity, creating intense wines with structure and balanced acidity while staying fun to drink. Luis has risen to the top of the scene as a pioneer of Mendoza with less common varietals, making Chaman stand out in an often Malbec-dominated category.

The grapes are from Ugarteche, where the vines are deeply rooted in sandy loam soil. They are hand-harvested and cofermented and aged for 12 months in 20% new and 80% 2nd and 3rd use French oak barrels.

Thanks to its blazing matter, this powerful and dense wine offers a complete palette of sensations in this vintage of reference: concentration, robustness, aromas of ripe fruit, unctuousness, tannins present but tame, triggering a succession of long and persistent flavors. CLOS DES FOUS CHARDONNAY LOCURA 1
CLOS DES FOUS CHARDONNAY LOCURA 1 Image

Clos des Fous is a story about four wine friends – four crazy guys who have chosen to ignore the “experts” about where to plant vineyards and to trust their own instincts. The team is viticulturist Paco Leyton, winemaker Francois Massoc, terroir hunter Pedro Parra, and “bringer of wisdom” Albert Cussen. Clos des Fous, at its heart, is a project dedicated to finding extreme terroirs in Chile and crafting unique wines that speak of place.

This wine is a blend of two different terroirs, both in the Alto Cachapoal D.O. – the coldest part of Cachapoal. The first terroir has a colluvial soil made up of sandy clay that is full of volcanic rocks and pebbles that allows a very deep root development. The second terroir comes from our Grillos Cantores Vineyard, entirely alluvial from the Cachapoal River. The soil is a gravelly mix with limestone which also allows for very deep root development. We make this wine in stainless steel to preserve the vibrance and minerality of the terroir.

The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tanks.

A deeply layered nose offering strikingly delineated aromas of blackberry, dried redcurrant and cassis, with lifted herbaceous notes of mint, bay leaf and thyme. The wine is powerfully textured on entry, showing an array of wild, dark berry fruits, and deep underlying flavors of sage, cured meats and blackened earth. Sweet, sappy tannins meld with a firm, graphite-like minerality to provide excellent length and a wonderfully youthful energy that promises long-term aging potential.

GARCIA SCHWADERER FACUNDO RED BLEND
GARCIA SCHWADERER FACUNDO RED BLEND Image

Felipe started with G&S in 2006. After working for larger wineries, he made his first independent wine as a declaration of what he considers true “Chilean” wine. Inspired at first by old-vine Carignan from Maule, he since have started two of Chile’s most influential small producer movements today: MOVI (Movement of Independent Vintners) and VIGNO (Vignadores de Carignan).

Facundo is the wine that started Felipe’s independent winemaking career. It blends old-vine Carignan with Bordeaux varieties from the heart of Chile (the Carignan and Cabernet Franc are from old vines in Maule Valley, the Cabernet Sauvignon is from Itata, and Petit Verdot is from Colchagua). The vineyards are naturally low yielding from granitic soils. The components are vinified, separated, aged for 28 months in third and fourth use French neutral oak, then filtered lightly before bottling.

50% Carginan, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec

GRAFFITO MALBEC
GRAFFITO MALBEC Image

These deeply concentrated wines are named after the color of “graphite” and shows beautiful expression and structure. Winemaker Jimena Lopez left her corporate wine job to pursue her dream of making her own wine, and she now handles all aspects of Graffito from vine selection to the final blend with a precise attention to detail. She believes so deeply in her wine quality that she puts her fingerprint stamp of approval right on the label. Jimena made her own winemaking dream a reality when she came across an old-vine Malbec vineyard planted in 1908 in Alto Agrelo farmed by Don Pepe and his family. The balance and structure coming from these old vines are the pillars of Graffito. Jimena also sources grapes from family-owned vineyards in Los Arboles and Vistaflores in the Uco Valley to round out her wines with the perfect blend of fruit flavors, floral notes, and spices.

Graffito Malbec is hand-harvested from three vineyards in Agrelo, Los Arboles, and Vistaflores. 70% is aged for 13 months in French oak.

This winery is family owned and has been producing
red wines on the estate since 1903. The vineyards are located
on the second slope above and nearly 2 km. south of the Duero
river at an altitude of 800-900 meters. Soils are deep and composed
of limestone, sand and clay in roughly equal proportions
along with gravels from the old river bed that are composed of
silex and quartz. The land has been known for its quality and
has been planted with vines for more than 100 years.
The estate, Finca Torremilanos, is comprised of 200 hectares of vineyards. 60 hectares are head-trained, en vaso, with
the remainder trained to wires. The slopes are predominantly north facing and one can see for 60 kilometers from the
heights of the vineyards. 100% of the plots are farmed organically and the winery is seeking organic certification.
The Bodega has been producing Cava for 30 years. Originally they produced only rose Cava and labeled the wine as
Champagne, as was typical for the time in Spain. Production was small and the wine was never sold in commercial
quantities. When the recent internal boycott of Catalan products occurred, demand for the winery’s Cava soared and

REGINATO CELESTINA SPARKLING BRUT ROSE Image

As Argentina’s most revered sparkling wine producer, the father-son Reginato team makes some of the world’s only sparkling wines with classic Argentine varietals. Unlike other “factory” sparkling wine producers in Mendoza, Pepe and his father José personally manage the whole process themselves from grape to bottle. They manage the vineyards, select the grapes, harvest at the optimal time, make the base wine, and then do secondary fermentation at their own winery. From Rosé of Malbec to Torrontés-Chardonnay, the Reginatos go outside the box of traditional sparkling varietals to find an Argentine twist to the French classics. They produce both Charmat and “Metodo Tradicional” (Champenoise) sparkling wines.

The grapes are from the Altamira (Uco Valley) Vineyard and are hand-harvested. Secondary fermentation is Metodo Champenoise.

A high-elevation desert, Mendoza has long sunny days, cold nights, low humidity, and natural irrigation from glacial snowmelt from the Andes Mountains. Bodini wines are fresh, fruit-forward, and a great introduction to the possibility of Malbec to deliver. The vineyards are located in Luján de Cuyo, in the coldest part of Agrelo and Perdriel. The deep soil is a sandy-clay texture with the presence of large boulders originally from the Mendoza River thousands of years ago.

Samsara is a Sanskrit word meaning “the eternal cycle of life” and refers to the oneness, passion, and harmony that winemaker Chad Melville has with his grapes. Chad and his wife Mary have the philosophy that clean, pristine, and healthy fruit allows for a non-manipulated winemaking process. He farms ¾-acre plots of personally-selected rows in various Sta. Rita Hills vineyards near the coast of Central California. Due to the region’s long, unique growing season, Chad can pick ripe stems and seeds allowing for whole cluster fermentation which helps absorb the overt fruitiness that can dominate many California wines.

Hand-harvested from the Las Hermanas Vineyard, which is planted on over six different soil types, all of marine origin. 75% whole-cluster fermentation and pressed with an ultra-gentle stainless steel basket press in an 8-hour cycle. Fermented in small lots (2 tons) with native yeast only. Year-round barrel maturation at 55 degrees. No fining, no filtering, and two racking and two SO2 addition prior to bottling. SECRET SQUIRREL BORDEAUX BLEND
SECRET SQUIRREL BORDEAUX BLEND Image

(Aged in 35% new oak for 22 months): Bright, dark red. Cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate aromas are slightly inky and high-toned in a positive way. A more obviously structured wine than the Rhône blend, this wine finishes classically dry and persistent.

SECRET SQUIRREL GSM BLEND

(fermented in concrete tanks, then aged in 20% new oak for 22 months): Bright red-ruby. Blackberry, blueberry and high-toned spices on the inviting nose. A juicy, intense, classically dry berry bomb with a fine-grained texture and terrific spicy lift. Finishes tactile and slightly salty, with a light dusting of tannins and very good length. Like the Red Wine, this is a very good value.

TORRE ALBENIZ RESERVA
TORRE ALBENIZ RESERVA Image

Ribera Del Duero wine Torre Albeniz Reserva 2003 is an organic wine that was first created in 1989 by the current winemaker, Ricardo Peñalba’s father, to honor his mother. This wine style, new at the time, helped usher in the style of vinos autors or high expression wines. The wine has not been made every year. This is the first Reserva produced since 1999. In this Ribera Del Duero Reserva 2003 vintage, the wine is 100% Tempranillo. The fruit comes from the historic old vines of Valdecañal and Adrián Pagos Vineyards, whose vines average 73 years of age. The wine was fermented in tank and then racked to oak barrels that were coopered at the winery for a total of 21 months aging. The wood for the barrels is sourced in Troncais and Jupille. With an alluring bouquet of toasted French bread, spices, scorched earth, violets and blackberry Torre Albaniz starts an exclusive experience. On the palate the wine is intense with excellent depth and breadth. Ripe and spicy, this well balanced wine has an intense cherry red color, is structured and vigorous on the palate and has traces of vanilla coming from the barrels. It is for the Ribera Del Duero wine lover. Drink now through 2025.

Bodegas Penalba Lopez is the producer of Torre Albaniz Reserva 2003. Their Ribera Del Duero Torremilanos vineyards are located on the second slope above and nearly 2 km. south of the Duero river at an altitude of 800-900 meters. Soils are deep and composed of limestone, sand and clay in roughly equal proportions along with gravels from the old river bed that are composed of silex and quartz. In some vineyard plots, the gravels dominate, for example the “Old Oak” vineyard is predominantly gravel and the youngest vines are 85 years old. The land has been know for its quality and has been planted with vines for more than 100 years. The majority of the vineyards are Tinto Fino with a few small plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Petit Verdot. The slopes are predominantly north facing and one can see for 60 kilometers from the heights of the vineyards. Nearly 70% of the plots are farmed organically, with the aim of 100% organic within 5 years.

This bottle rubs the perfection of a fine and delicate wine. A wine designed to evoke the great reserves. Prepare yourself to enjoy a little jewel … Even having more than 30 months of aging in French oak barrels, the wood is almost imperceptible, leaving only elegant notes of spices, pepper and some balsamic notes. As the wine comes into contact with oxygen we discover a ripe, fresh fruit, full of nuances. A velvety and fresh wine that has it all. Intensity and persistence. A wine to be remembered.

TORREMILANOS CRIANZA
TORREMILANOS CRIANZA Image

It has always been there, Torremilanos is a classic, but it is a renovated classic. Bodegas Peñalba López elaborates this aging with about a year and a half of barrel aging that is fresh and very good body.

In view there is an intense cherry red color, with a good coat and brilliance. The nose is very rich and you can see a good evolution in the cup. The aromas range from the floral and red fruit notes that give an account of the life of this wine, to notes more mature, with notes of black fruits, underbrush and nuances of aging, which although it is long, does not impose itself with tyranny , Send the good fruit while the toasted and the vanilla are elegantly in the background, waiting in time, because Torremilanos Crianza is a great wine, that guard it will treat with generosity, making it an investment unbeatable. The passage through the mouth is cheerful but intense, persistent and well-sized, certainly elements to make this wine a great value.
